Modular Block Walls
Freyssinet Engineered for Aesthetics & Cost Effectiveness
Reinforced Soil was originally invented by Henri Vidal in the early 1960’s. Since this time many variations have evolved. The total surface area of projects completed is growing at an impressive rate.
The surface area of completed projects globally exceeds ten million square meters. In Europe and the Middle East there are Hundreds of Thousands of m2 of both the Terre Armee and the Freyssisol System.
The walls have been used as approach ramps to many bridges in France, UK, Italy, Spain Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah in the U.A.E and in Cyprus at the Strovolos Interchange in Nicosia, Rizoelia and Kalo Horio Interchanges in Larnaca, and on the new Lemesos-Paphos Highway, Upgrading of Polemidia and Limassol Port Roundabouts, and at Kokkinotrimithia Astromeritis Highway.
In recent years a smaller version of these Reinforced Soil Walls have been developed, called Masonry Block Walls. These use the same soil reinforcement technology as large precast concrete faced walls but use a pressed concrete coloured block as a face.
In 1996/97 Dubai Municipality specified such walls on the Road from the World Trade Centre Roundabout to Garhood Bridge. The project shown in the enclosed photographs is a bridge crossing of this highway near the Wafi Centre.
The Landscape Architects in Dubai Municipality considered that terraces around the bridges approaches could be supported by such a block wall. They then developed an excellent planting scheme.
Freyssinet provided all the Engineering services including Design, Detailed drawings and Soil Reinforcement plus site supervision.
Since that project several other projects have been carried out in Al-Ain on the same basis as above. The projects are located at the Jebel Haffit Hotel and Al Rawda Place.
Recently the system has undergone a improvement to keep pace with the need of the industry and Freyssinet Middle
East are able to offer a complete Design and Supply and assistance with construction service for the Block as detailed in the photo below
